Rings, necklaces, cuffs and bracelets: 3D printed jewellery by architect Artur Dabrowski in his Brooklyn studio, where the workshop takes place Multiply like rabbits - 'Reproducing like rabbits' - focused on the modelling and 3D printing of jewellery of all kinds and shapes.
Artur Dabrowski: Multiply like rabbits
The focus on brand building and marketing starts from the concept of depthwhich Artur Dabrovski addresses as much in terms of form (shadow lines, accentuated depth of field) as in terms of meaning: behind each object there is in fact a definite story.
"While relying on an architectural structure in the design lines, I use rabbits as characters to create stories with open endings," explains Dabrovski, talking about the Multiply like rabbits series. "Everyone always asks me: why rabbits? I started drawing them in the corners of my notebooks when I was at school, using them to personify concepts or express thoughts, situations and emotions I was feeling. I find it very fun and playful to imagine them personified: the rabbit is cute, hopping around, eating, breeding... and living its life lightly."
With regard to the architectural elements included in the series, the designer makes use of models with personal meaning and value:
"Brick arches were an obsession for me when I was in architecture school: there is something overtly tactile and nostalgic about giving them a meaning and function outside of time and space: I grew up in a brick building in Brooklyn, which is why I associate the brick with an idea of refuge: the arch becomes a metaphor for a portal through which I could find freedom, expressing my introverted personality without embarrassment.
3D printing and the investment casting process
Artur Dabrovski has managed to incorporate his peculiar love of rabbit design into his designs. All jewellery is made from high-resolution 3D models using a process of microfusion (also known as 'lost-wax casting'). The procedure consists of moulding the wax model with a high-resolution 3D printer. The model is then immersed in liquid plaster, which is allowed to solidify.
All Artur Dabrovski jewellery is hand-finished down to the smallest detail after printing, using 3 main colours (brass, bronze and silver) with an undoubtedly exquisite end result.
