It was created as a tribute by the Carl Hansen & Son to theAmerican Scandinavian Foundation in New York, the reinterpretation of Society Tableoriginally designed in 1952: a desk that thus gives new visibility to the work of Arne Jacobsen.
Society Table
Thanks to Carl Hansen & Son, a period piece of furniture becomes an expression of modern, elegant design, which is added to the Danish company's already rich collection of classics so that they can always be enjoyed. The extraordinary relevance of the Society Table can be traced back to the foresight of Arne Jacobsen, world-renowned Danish architect and designer, capable of combining ever new materials and experimenting with innovative forms.
Initially produced in a small number, thanks to Carl Hansen & Son it has been slightly updated. restylingbut of a particular reinterpretation that leaves shapes and traits intact of a furniture component destined to go down in design history. Confirming this vision is Knud Erik Hansen, CEO of Carl Hansen & Son, who points out:
"Arne Jacobsen is an obvious figure to welcome into the circle of our designers and one of the leading figures in the context of Danish Modernism represented by the brand.
Solid wood, veneer and steel
The Society Table is made of solid wood, veneer and steel. Equipped with a shelf with two compartments, a drawer unit and a table top covered in fine-grained leather, it is fitted with all kinds of furnishing elements, including a conical lamp that adds a touch of modernity.
The first to appreciate the relaunch of the desk were Jacobsen's relatives, who now manage the legacy left by his grandfather Arne. The grandson Tobias Jacobsenstated in this regard:
"The desk is an archetypal example of his functionalist approach to the design process and it is significant that the Society Table is now being put back into production.
Unique design works: PK1
The idea of taking cues from unique design works is a prerogative of Carl Hansen & Son, which has also dedicated itself to reinterpreting the PK1, the dining chair that bears the initials of the internationally renowned designer's name Poul Kjærholm.
In 2016, the same company had presented the dining chair in a steel and rope version. Today, however, following the author's original idea, a steel frame and wicker backrest seat has been introduced on the PK1. This is because Kjærholm, as well as experimenting with different materials, has always been fascinated by steel combined with other materials, while remaining a fan of hand-woven wicker baskets. The new PK1 is in fact made stainless steel and natural wickerThe latter is made from the stem of the climbing palm, which is dried before being handled: comfortable, elegant and modern in design.
