Milan, via Solari 40: a former hardware storeclosed and in a state of disrepair, turns into a luxury studio apartment. Fine finishes and materials for this 30-square-metre space, literally given a new look with one of the urban space regeneration initiatives launched at the Fuorisalone at DOS, Design Open' Spaces, first district
widespread in the city.
The project, called 'Design Box Milano Abita', is curated by Milano Abita by Martina Margaria, a Milanese architect specialising in the renovation and enhancement of small properties
and its partners.
Ten days only to renovate the location and design the new flat, which is intended to simulate a luxury studio flat with inserts of harmony and elegance: a job that involved the best Italian and European craftsmen.
Among the critical issues found was the presence of a major seepage affecting the column to the right of the entrance.
Architect Margaria, after renovating it, chose to bring the bricks back into view and to enhance this volume by painting it in a stronger shade of grey than the white and pastel greys with which the box was painted.
The left-hand column, on the other hand, became functional to house, and conceal, a custom-designed fireplace, while the flooring of the flat was
Hungarian parquet laid in a horizontal groove was chosen to give the space a sense of greater breath and breadth in the perception of those living in it.
The same material was used for the bathroom, where, however, it was laid horizontally to give movement. In order to make the living area functional and optimise space, a small, compact and high-performance steel mini-kitchen was chosen. The generous height made it possible to realise a mezzanine, where the area
