5 December Cascina Cuccagna will host Dressing the Future - Wearing the Future, the new cultural and educational project conceived by the Italian Design Institute (IDI) with the patronage of the City of Milan. An entire day dedicated to sustainable design, ethical fashion and the creativity of the new generations, transforming one of the symbolic places of Milanese urban regeneration into a living laboratory of experimentation.
An event combining education, design and social impact
Italian Design Institute, a reference reality in the design training, launches a project that goes beyond the boundaries of the educational institution to become a cultural platform and accelerator of innovation.
"With Dressing the Future we want to give a voice to young designers who believe in a more sustainable, humane and conscious future,» explains Nicola Carbonara, founder of IDI. «We bring our vision out of the classroom, creating a real dialogue between education, business and social innovation in the city that symbolises Italian design.».
The day is proposed as a fluid ecosystem of meetings, workshops and installations in which sustainability becomes a concrete and participatory practice. Not just parades or exhibitions, but a true collective experience in which art, technique and research intertwine in a path open to the city.
Installations, art and sound design: the diffuse exhibition
From 10 a.m. onwards, the Exhibition Area opens, an immersive journey through the different spaces of Cascina Cuccagna:
Room 13 - “In the Making”
Multimedia project works by IDI students in the fashion area tell the creative process as a visual narrative.
Room 14 - Laurent Barnavon, Ce n'est qu'une impression, Milan 25
The French artist presents a site-specific installation dedicated to the pliage technique and the transformation of the two-dimensional image into sculpture.
Room 15 - Sara Conforti Hofer, One Hundred and Seventy Eighty - What Comes First?
An interactive work exploring the link between dress, memory and identity, accompanied by an exclusive artist's notebook for the Moleskine Foundation.
Acting as a sound thread throughout the exhibition are soundscapes created by the students of the IDI Master in Sound Design, which amplify the sensory experience of the exhibition.
Workshop: sustainability as gesture, matter, action
The heart of the event is the five workshops in the Art & Circular Fashion area, which turn theory into creative practice:
Out of Frame - Laurent Barnavon
The pliage as a zero-waste model (10.30-13.30)
Re-Trace - Marco Piu
Fibre Recycling Education and Mapping the Textile Future (15.30-17.30)
Bodyscape - Carlo Galli
3D somatic modelling to create a custom-made bra (15.30-17.30)
Sustainable Hanger - Cristina Mandelli
Sustainable ceramic craft hangers (15.30-17.30)
WEAR_ART - Sarah Bowyer
A collective performance transforming a regenerated overcoat into a three-dimensional work (15.30-17.30)
Institutional Talk: Rethinking Made in Italy
At 6 p.m. the Sala Eventi will host the talk “Re-imagining Made in Italy between culture, business and sustainability”, moderated by Aurora Magni (Blumine).
A discussion between institutions, companies, activists and professionals to explore three key themes: sustainable supply chain, creativity and innovation, ethics and inclusion.
At the end of the talk, IDI will award prizes to a number of prominent figures from the design and communication scene - including Roberto De Santis, Letizia Schatzinger, Mariella Milani, Marina Nelli, Armando Bruno, Simone Micheli and Maurizio Corbi - for their contribution to the dissemination of a responsible design culture.
An evening of art and conviviality
The day will end with a diffuse aperitif from 8 p.m., a guided tour of the installations and a concluding performance realised by the artists together with IDI students, in a moment of sharing that celebrates creativity as a community tool.
Dressing the Future 2025: design as a cultural act
More than an event, Dressing the Future is a manifesto: an invitation by the Italian Design Institute to rewrite Made in Italy through sustainability, ethics and care. A path that unites generations, techniques, materials and visions, to build a future together “fold after fold, seam after seam”.
Admission to the event, at Cascina Cuccagna (Via Cuccagna 2/4, Milan), is free.
