On the façade of a renovated industrial building in the centre of Milan, a vibrant tableau of polychromatic buds and plant vitality comes to life. Rooted in the exterior of the offices of the architecture firm Piuarch, Flowerprint creates an extraordinary improvised garden from the roof to the ground floor of the building.
The installation, developed during the Milan Design Week 2017showcases a cascade of over 2000 flowers, including roses, lilies, carnations and aromatic plants such as thyme, sage, lavender, rosemary and mint.
Flowerprint saw Piuarch collaborating with landscape architect Cornelius Favril for taking care of the physical and natural aspects of the installation. With their iridescent colours and extraordinary variety of species, the flowers form a textural pattern on the surface of the building that constantly changes according to the weather and lighting conditions. The buds have been hung and arranged using an ancient technique whereby the cut stems of plants are grafted onto a potato plant - a method that guarantees structural solidity, nourishment and long-lasting vitality.
In addition, the façade provides an extraordinary olfactory horizon: scents by Verdevivo and outdoor fragrances by Adar contribute to a unique olfactory experience, inspired by the aroma of grass on a spring morning.
