Passoni, an Italian company that was founded in 1948 and grew up in the chair district of Friuli, once again underlines its connection to the world of design through a new and exclusive collaboration with theBritish architect John Pawsonfather of Minimalist Architecture.
Tacta is the first and unprecedented chair designed by John Pawson. The distinctive profile of the chair stems from the idea of stretching the legs like two sinuous lines of wood, which touch and separate to form the armrests and backrest, creating an elegant, comfortable and visually refined sculptural form. From this simple strategy has emerged a chair that seems unmistakably modern, but also speaks quietly of its antecedents in the bentwood chairs of Thonet and the organic lines of mid-century Danish furniture.

Made entirely of solid wood, the seat is the fruit of the company's consolidated know-how and long tradition in working with this natural material and in chair making. A savoir-faire born of decades of tests, experiences, challenges and which gives shape to unique results.
The linear, minimalist design fully reflects the creative and life philosophy of John Pawson, known to international audiences for the simplicity of his architecture, based on essential elements, using materials as a means with which to explore solutions for concrete situations.
"Passoni's invitation to collaborate on a chair interested me from the start, as I had never designed a chair before, which meant there was clear scope to push the thinking. I liked Passoni's commitment to sustainability and could see the potential in their manufacturing processes to create something new and fresh. The Tacta chair is the result of a close and sustained dialogue with Tommaso Passoni. The design is based on their ability to shape wood and reflects the strength of their commitment and willingness to be flexible throughout the creative process," says John Pawson.
"The desire to involve John stems from our shared love of nature, natural materials, quality and detail. From our common willingness to break new ground and continuously challenge ourselves. We tried to provide Pawson's studio with all our support and know-how in order to be able to design and develop a chair with unique characteristics, capable of highlighting with simple clarity our manufacturing skills and passion for solid wood"., says Tommaso Passoni, CEO of Passoni.
Always an advocate of sustainable and natural design, Passoni fully shares the architect's philosophy. The synthesis of a new awareness, with which Passoni expresses its lifelong identity, its real and deep knowledge of wood, and its genuine love of nature.
