Innovation, craftsmanship, vision and design have resulted in "Love the Sea', a special mask, washable and reusable in Revolution ECO® by Carvico fabric made of ECONYL®.100% Nylon thread regenerated from pre- and post-consumer waste materials such as discarded fishing nets. The architect and designer Giorgio Caporaso, which has been involved in sustainable design and the circular economy for many years, in collaboration with Faberlab Digital Innovation Hub of Confartigianato Varese e MG Textile Laboratory in Busto Arsizio chose this particular fabric for the production of a new faceplatewhich respects the sea and the environment.
Approximately 8 million tonnes of litter end up in the sea every year and 640,000 tonnes of fishing nets are abandoned in the oceans (FAO and UNEP sources), figures that are bound to rise if we consider that protective devices will be with us for a long time to come and that there is a dangerous abandonment of these disposable products, with devastating consequences for the planet.
Love the Sea' masks I am not a personal protective equipment (PPE) nor a medical device, they are community masks, which provide adequate safety in non-high-risk everyday situations. Externally they are made of fabric Revolutional ECO® by Carvico made of ECONYL®, and internally are fitted with a layer of a high-performance technical fabric, Freedom M1 produced by the Finnish multinational AhlstromMunksjö, which has a bacterial filtration efficiency (BFE) value of over 98%, and is also used for the production of type I type II and type IIR surgical masks according to the UNI EN 14683:2019 standard.
Comfortable, soft, aesthetically beautiful and conveying an important message, they can be worn for a whole day before being washed at 60 degrees and then safely reused. They are produced by MG Laboratorio Tessile in Busto Arsizio, owned by the entrepreneur Maria Grazia Scianna and Faberlabthe laboratory of Saronno that deals with generating innovative processes within companies.
A fortunate encounter, an unprecedented collaboration between an artisan company, an innovative workshop and a designer allowed the study, development and production of the many variants of Love the Sea with colourful and distinctive graphics, chosen by Giorgio Caporasoto combine beauty and quality.
